Writer

Larry has written for television programs across all the major networks in Australia including The Glass House, Comedy Inc and Speaking in Tongues.

He has also written for SBS Radio’s Africa Hour and Alchemy and ABC Radio National’s Airplay

After receiving the Screen NSW Talent Escalator award, Larry moved to the UK and worked as a storyliner on the popular Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks for Lime Pictures.

A gifted wordsmith, Larry has also written for numerous publications including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Jewish News, Cleo, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Style, Inside Sport and FHM among others.

Larry has written films for Altura Learning (formerly Aged Care Channel) which provides high quality media for the aged care, healthcare and disability care sectors.

Larry studied playwriting at Juilliard Extension’s professional development program, Writing for Performance under France-Luce Benson. He also studied playwriting at The Playwrights Centre (PWC) Minneapolis with Steph Del Rosso, L.M Feldman and Matthew Paul Olmos.

In 2023, Larry completed the Kennedy Centre Playwriting Intensive Preview Program led by Garry Garrison and TJ Young, the Solo Writing Workshop at The Barrow Group Theatre (NY) under Seth Barrish, the National Theatre Playwriting Masterclasses (London) with Emma Rice, Innua Ellams and Roy Williams and the TV Comedy Writing Program with Brent Forrester (The Office).

Larry has Bachelors’ of Media and Law from Macquarie University and a Masters in Screenwriting from the Australian Film, Television, & Radio School (AFTRS). He’s also a graduate of the prestigious NIDA Playwrights Studio (National Institute of Dramatic Art) and the AWARD School. 

In addition to his own writing, Larry teaches screenwriting on the Bachelor’s program at AFTRS and is a teacher and mentor on the MFA (Writing for Performance) at NIDA.

Dramaturg

Larry is an internationally regarded script consultant, working across film, TV, theatre and online.

In the US, Larry worked in development at Lionsgate Films in LA and assessed scripts for Ad Hominem Enterprises and Two-by-Four Films.

In London, Larry served as a development executive for Stephen Fry’s Sprout Pictures. He also assessed scripts for BBC Films, Momentum Pictures/Alliance Films, Film London, Mammoth Screen and BAFTA Rocliffe New Writers Forum. Larry mentored at the Channel Four Writers’ Academy, the London Film School and the London Screenwriters’ Festival.

After completing an Above the Line attachment through Screen NSW, Larry joined Screen Australia’s Script Factory Developers Initiative. He then worked in Acquisitions and Development under Susan Boehm at Icon Films and assessed scripts for Transmission Films. Larry also spent six years assessing scripts for the Australian Writers’ Guild and Script Central.     

With regards to theatre, Larry received the Dramaturgy Mentorship from PWA (Playwriting Australia) under the auspices of Tim Roseman and Iain Sinclair. He worked as a dramaturg on the PWA Script Labs, National Play Festival and National Script Workshop.

Larry assessed scripts for The New Plot presented by 107 Projects and ACA (Actors Centre Australia). He then worked as a dramaturg on Redline Productions/Old Fitz Theatre’s program of new plays including Brooke Robinson’s The Telescope and Benedict Hardie’s The Squeal in the Pen.

Larry collaborated with the National Theatre of Paramatta on Playwrights of Parramatta (POP) and Staging the Nation—a special initiative on Australian play-writing, supported by the Australia Council.

Most recently, Larry trained in Writing and Dramaturgy under Brian Quirt at Tarragon Theatre, Toronto.

 

Performer

Larry is one of Australia’s most accomplished improvisational actors.

In 2022, he wrote and performed with The Second City Theatre Chicago’s Training Centre Conservatory & Grad Revue programs.

Larry’s a graduate of all levels at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) having studied under Donald Chang, Ali Ghandour and Monika Smith. He trained under Phyllis Katz and Kevin Berntson at the renowned Groundlings Theatre and School, with Carla Cackowski at Rise Comedy Denver, Craig Cackowski at Unscrewed Theater Arizona, Susan Messing at Magnet Theater New York, Will Hines, Alex Berg and Billy Merritt at World’s Greatest Improv School (WGIS) and Bill Arnett at Improv Olympic Chicago (IO).

Larry’s a graduate of ITS (Improv Theatre Sydney) and Laugh Masters Academy (LMA) in Sydney and has been mentored by improv luminaries such as Joe Bill, Dave Razowsky, Rob Norman, Adam Cawley, Patrick Bristow & Colleen Smith.

Larry regularly performs at venues around Sydney such as the Factory Theatre, Belvoir Theatre, Giant Dwarf, and Blood Moon Theatre. He recently starred as Detective Rick Steel in the breakout hit of the Sydney Fringe Festival, Law and Order: ICU (Improvised Case Unit). His motto; “Shoot first, ask questions…if they’re alive.”

Larry is also highly sought after on the storytelling circuit where he delivers hilarious yet heart-warming narrative comedy. He has performed at countless events including Story Club, A Likely Story, Writers-Sports, Kweens of Comedy and Bespoken Word.  

Larry is a graduate of NIDA’s acclaimed Advanced Actors Residency, The Hub’s Anthony Skuse Masterclass and Larry Moss Masterclass.

He recently starred as over zealous café manager Gordon in the Amazon Prime comedy series, Road Map Next Turn Adulthood. Larry can be seen every fortnight on the Weegis Twitch Channel (Twitch TV) as part of the improv ensemble, Brief Manifesto.
